Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest operating system, has been out on the shelves for a few days now – have you tried it?

According to W3Counter, in September 2009 various editions of Microsoft’s Windows were powering more than 85% of computers. The newest version, Windows 7, had 2.05% at the time – a statistic that’s probably gone up a lot since it officially launched on 22 October.

We’ve been reading some of the reviews across the web and the initial reports look pretty positive – Gizmodo has pulled together links to 27 reviews here, including sites like PC Mag, the Wall Street Journal and Hexus. Here’s a couple of snippets from their roundup:

"Windows 7 is simply the best version of Windows you can get." – The Guardian

"No version of Windows is ever perfect, but Windows 7 really is the best release of Windows yet." – Tech Radar

"Windows 7 presents a stable platform that can compete comfortably with OS X, while reassuring the world that Microsoft can still turn out a strong, useful operating system." – Cnet

If you’re planning to install Windows 7 on a machine that uses O2 Mobile Broadband, you may need to update your software. We’ve produced some simple instructions on how to do this – they’re online now at www.o2.co.uk/win7.

Have you tried Windows 7? We’d love to know your thoughts – leave us a comment below.
