We held our first #O2SpeedRating event on Thursday, 8 November. It was attended by 50 guests that registered through the O2 Community, Pocket-lint and a Twitter shout-out.

Bloggers like Beauty and the Dirt from Handpicked Media also came along. The event offered an opportunity to preview the new Google phone, the Nexus 4 by LG, before general release (buy it here: http://bit.ly/SSvxyr).

#O2SpeedRating is about a group of mobile tech lovers getting together to compare the latest smartphones available on O2 in a relaxed setting. At our event in central London, the other headliners on show were the HTC 8X Windows Phone, the Sony Xperia T, the HTC One X+ and the iPhone 5.

The HTC Windows Phone turned a few heads, including loyal iPhone followers that admitted to being tempted by the handset’s design along with the improved “live tiles” format on Windows 8.

The new Head of Social Media at O2, Paul Fabretti, tweeted “Great job at #O2SpeedRating guys. Personal fave was the @WindowsPhoneUK (this worm has truly turned!).”

O2 Community member darrengf wrote “The surprise of the night was Windows 8. I have to admit I instantly bonded with it.”

It was a great evening with as @marmish (a shout-out guest) tweeted, “Not just phones but good ale and Mac n cheese :-).”

Pocket-lint and O2 joined together in creating a video review featuring some of the guests from the night. Check it out:

We handed out rating cards too. Afterwards, we built these word clouds based on the comments of our guests. (The larger the word – the more frequently it was mentioned. Blue comments are positive, red are negative)…
