Twitter is pretty awesome. You can already see what your favourite celebs are up to, witness breaking news as it happens,  even see tweets from far-away locations.

But it’s about to get even more awesome with a new service for tweeters on O2…

In a global first, customers will soon be able to manage their O2 mobile phone account via a series of hashtags on Twitter. In line with our ‘Be more dog’ philosophy, we’re embracing new, exciting ways to use technology in everyday life. Tweet Serve is the latest addition to the list of ways to manage your account, which also includes the My O2 on o2.co.uk and the My O2 mobile app.

At launch, you’ll be able to use hashtags to check how much of your #minutes, #texts and #data you’ve used, and how much remains. You’ll be able to find out when you’re eligible to #upgrade, and even get information on the latest #offers or specially-priced Pay & Go #handsets. Additionally, #ios, #android and #windows mobile users will be able to sign up for notifications on the latest software updates for their smartphones. Pretty cool, right?

Getting started is just as easy, all you’ll need to do is follow @O2 on Twitter and send us a tweet using the hashtag #tweetserve – we’ll follow you back and drop you a DM with instructions on how to sign up securely. After that, it’ll take just one text from you, and you’ll be ready to use the world’s first twitter-based mobile account management service.
