On Monday 2 September, excited tech enthusiasts from across Europe descended upon London to join the opening celebrations for Campus Party Europe 2013.

As the sun shone down on The O2 Arena, this year’s attendees (known as ‘campuseros’) took their places in the Live Quarter – a hub of activity at Campus Party, where hackers and enthusiasts share knowledge in order to create the next wave of technical innovations.

To officially open proceedings, television presenter and self-confessed geek Suzi Perry was joined by Telefonica’s Ronan Dunne and José María Álvarez-Pallete, UK Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Ed Vaizey, Neelie Kroes – the European Commissioner for Digital Agenda, and co-founder of Campus Party Paco Ragageles.

After hearing from the guests, campuseros joined in the countdown and Campus Party Europe 2013 was officially declared underway, before Beardyman took to the stage and electrified the atmosphere with his unique musical genius.

Between now and Friday 6 September, up to 10000 tech fans will visit The O2 to take part in more than 500 hours of content from workshops, conferences and activities to gaming competitions. Around 3000 campuseros will become temporary residents of The O2, where over 1600 tents have been erected to create a ‘Glastonbury for geeks’ in the heart of London.
