O2-Home-Diagram-Final-01 (2)O2 Home is live now!

O2 today announces it is working with AT&T Digital Life and tado° to bring a unique smart home proposition to the UK in summer 2016 – making the market the first in Europe to offer the AT&T1 Digital Life home management and automation platform commercially.

Speaking on the eve of CES 2016 at the AT&T Developer Conference in Las Vegas, O2’s Digital Director David Plumb will reveal how O2 is bringing together leading players within this space.  By joining up a leading platform, smart home device, and service provider, O2 will enable UK customers to enjoy the everyday benefits of smart technology in their homes.

David Plumb, Digital Director at O2, said:

“Across a range of sectors, we’ve already seen technology evolve from analogue to digital to smart.  But when it comes to our homes, the experience is mostly stuck in analogue. At O2 we are building an ecosystem that will deliver a complete smart home experience.  By teaming up with the very best device, platform and service providers, we will be able to give people the smartest tech for their homes.

But crucially, we will use our O2 Gurus, with installation experts, to make it easy and simple for people to get the most out of that tech, ensuring they can save money and time or simply gain peace of mind.  With 25 million O2 customers in the UK, we’re excited to be using our scale and expertise to help customers get the everyday benefits of connected tech in the home.

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with AT&T for their Digital Life platform which will integrate old and new devices around the home, and tado° for their truly smart heating control. We are also keen to hear from others who want to join our ecosystem.”

O2’s parent company Telefonica and AT&T Digital Life announced a limited trial of AT&T’s home management and automation service in Europe last year. Telefonica was the first company to licence the AT&T Digital Life platform – an all-digital, fully integrated, wireless home automation, peace of mind and energy management system that gives customers flexibility to manage their home from their smartphone, tablet or computer.

Kevin Peterson, President of AT&T Digital Life, added:

“O2’s interest after our trial with Telefonica shows that Digital Life’s platform is a great fit for European markets such as the UK. Digital Life’s platform is an end-to-end solution that pulls a variety of devices and capabilities into a single experience that allows consumers to see through the noise and manage the system through a single app. By adding OEM’s such as tado° to the ecosystem, O2’s customers will have even more choice in managing their connected home experience.”

Christian Deilmann, founder and CEO of tado° said:

“There are perfect synergies between the collaborators on this project. At tado° we focus purely on climate control. We deliver products and intelligent algorithms for the highest possible comfort and efficiency at home. Together with O2 and AT&T, customers can experience a truly comprehensive Smart Home.”

David Plumb and Kevin Petersen were speaking at the AT&T Developer Conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday 5th January.
