13 March – Cue the party music: O2 and O2 Tracks are having a double celebration – O2’s music service has topped 100m plays in time for its first birthday. To celebrate, all O2 customers can listen to Kylie Minogue’s new album, ‘Kiss Me Once’, from its UK launch on 17 March until 23 March.

A year in O2 Tracks

Since its launch in February 2013, O2 Tracks has played host to a huge range of music including every track from the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart as well as bespoke playlists for R&B, dance, rock and many more. During that time, O2 Tracks listeners have listened to more than 100m tracks – enough music to last 570 years if listened to back to back.

Get access to Kylie’s ‘Kiss Me Once’

As part of the birthday celebrations, all O2 customers will be able to access O2 Tracks for free from 17 until 23 March and hear ‘Kiss Me Once’, Kylie Minogue’s much anticipated new album. ‘Kiss Me Once’, Kylie’s twelfth album, will be available in the Centre Stage section of O2 Tracks and sees Kylie return to the dance floor with an album full of massive anthemic tracks including the album’s first single, ‘Into The Blue’, which has already generated huge airplay.

“O2 Tracks has proven to be one of our most popular digital services,” said Nina Bibby, Marketing and Consumer Director for O2 in the UK. “Our customers have truly embraced the ability explore a wide variety of music and, thanks to O2 Tracks, they can now be among the first to hear Kylie’s new album in full.”

State of the musical nation

‘Let Her Go’ by Passenger tops the charts for the most listened to tune on O2 Tracks, receiving nearly two million plays, while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are the most popular act, having seen over three million plays between their huge hits ‘Thrift Shop’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us’.

As well as hosting the best new music in the Official Top 40 Singles Chart, O2 Tracks also offers a wide range of playlists to celebrate special events and these have proved that, sometimes, you just can’t beat a classic.

For Halloween, O2 Tracks users played The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s ‘Time Warp’ more than four times as much as the second place Halloween track, Lady GaGa’s The Monster’. Meanwhile the most played song on O2 Tracks’ Royal Congratulations playlist was Elton John’s ‘Circle of Life’, from the Lion King, while Michael Bublé’s ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ was the most popular tune in the app’s Christmas playlist, played more than six times as much as Mudd’s ‘Lonely This Christmas’.

O2 Tracks, powered by MusicQubed Limited, is available to mobile users on Apple, Android and Windows Mobile devices. All O2 customers can listen to Kylie’s album regardless of whether or not they are new to O2 Tracks, have an active O2 Tracks account, are in a free trial period or have a lapsed subscription.
