Aisha in Tenguel - update 8
We had our final lunch at Kellys house where we have been going the whole time we have been in Tenguel, it wasn’t easy.
The atmosphere at both schools has now changed as we all know the time is quickly ticking away until we leave for Quito. I wish I could turn back time and start the whole experience again.
Today in the escuela we have been working hard to finish the library we set up, we didn’t get it finished but it is at the top of our agenda for tomorrow morning.
After the escuela we went to a local centre to chat with some of the mothers, we talked about what Proniño is about and what we hope to achieve and things they can do to help. We also gave advice on self esteem and similar subjects. I, in my broken Spanish also showed and explained to the mothers how to make model dogs out of balloons – I was rather impressed with their enthusiasm and with their balloon dogs.
With the college students we have been having group discussions on how they can keep their surroundings clean and tidy as well as teaching them about personal hygiene, social and sexual issues. We also promised them a movie so today we are watching Transformers – in Spanish of course.
The other day I was presented with a gold necklace and earrings from the Saraguro school director and today I received a beautiful Mickey the Mouse watch from a teacher and her son as well as a beautiful rock from a gold mine where one of my students work. I will be showing them off when I get back (if I come back….just kidding).
I haven´t even left yet but the thought it is making me miss the place already. The simplicity of this country and its people is what makes it so beautiful.
Also, I had an interview with the Yorkshire Post this morning, so watch out for it.
My next blog will the last one for this experience so don´t forget your tissues as it´s going to be an emotional one.
