If you’re a budding musician between the ages of 16 and 25 you could find yourself a brand new set of bandmates with O2 Think Big. We’ve hooked up with DJ, festival producer and hero of the new music scene, Huw Stephens, to create The Think Big Band. Together, they’re looking for up to ten musicians – instrumentalists, vocalists, DJs, MCs, you name it – to come together and create a new band, from scratch, in just three months.

Here’s Huw explaining what we’re doing (and how to get involved) …

Huw and O2 Think Big want the Think Big Band to represent the music scene from across the whole of the UK – bringing together people with all sorts of different musical styles and influences. They want to hear from you whether you play bongos or the banjo, sitar or rock guitar, drums or decks. And the band needs vocalists too – whatever your style.

They can only pick up to ten people to join the band, but Huw and his team will take a look at every entry we receive. Once its members have been chosen, the new band will come together over the summer to meet, rehearse, jam and work with Huw and a expert team he’s putting together of composers and producers who will help you craft your songs together.

Each year O2 Think Big, brings together some of the people who have made those projects happen for a celebration of their work at the Think Big Gigs.  This time around they’re going to be putting on four of them across the country. So the band will be taking to the road in October and November.

The Think Big Band will play some of the UK’s biggest venues – the O2 Academies in Glasgow, Liverpool and Birmingham and then the IndigO2 in London to cap it all off. You’ll be on stage supporting some of the biggest acts in the UK – last year Wretch 32 and Chipmunk played the Think Big Gigs.

O2 Think Big supports projects across the country so we want to make sure that many different social and cultural influences are represented in the band we create.

If you think that you’ve got the talent to join the group, head to j.mp/thinkbigband where you can find out more about the project and send in a brief audition. You’ve got until 13 September 2012 to get your entry in.
