Local Government finalists brace themselves for O2 'Dragon's Den'

We’ve had a fantastic response to our’ Local Government Digital Fund initiative this year, with over 50 entries from more than 120 Local Authorities, many in collaboration with other Public Sector bodies such as the NHS, Police and Third Sector.  All bidding to win up to £250,000 worth of O2 technology and services to turn their idea into reality.

We’ve been busy reviewing each application and I am amazed by the many creative and innovative ideas put forward on how digital technology can help Local Government. From using tablets and applications to empower front line workers, to harnessing aggregated data to improve services for citizens. It truly has been a difficult task to whittle the applications down to just six finalists.

After much deliberation, the six finalists are now confirmed:

Birmingham City CouncilBuckinghamshire County CouncilCity of Edinburgh Council, Durham County Council, Newcastle City Council and Scarborough Borough Council.

On Monday 10 Feb, in true Dragon’s Den style, they’ll be coming to our Head Office in Slough to pitch their proposals to our judging panel. We’ll be announcing the winners on the day.

The initiative doesn’t end there; we’ll be following the progress of each of the winning projects and ensuring we share the results so that everyone can better understand the benefits of how digital technology can modernise Local Government.

We’re also continuing with our Local Government Digital Forum.  Working with senior officers, and members of local authorities across the UK to gain a deeper insight into the challenges, issues, opportunities and benefits that will make a real difference to communities.
