Over one million devices have now been recycled through O2 Recycle, in less than five years since we launched the initiative as part of our Think Big programme.

Since launching in 2009, O2 Recycle has racked up some impressive figures:

  • Paid out over £71m to customers throughout the UK
  • Recycled 357,000 devices in 2013 (25% increase YoY)
  • Saved 42,000 tonnes of CO2 or the same CO2 emissions of 7,000 houses for a year.

O2 Recycle has also provided funds to our Think Big Youth programme, which has now funded over 5,000 young people’s community projects have been funded across the country – from Dance Clubs in Sussex to anti-violence campaigns in Cornwall to STEM outreach for girls in London.

  • October 2009 – O2 Recycle launched
  • March 2010 – £1m milestone reached in payments to customers through O2 Recycle
  • May 2012 – £30m paid out to over 400,000 customers through O2 Recycle
  • August 2012 – O2 Recycle for Business launched
  • October 2012 – O2 Recycle for Schools launched
  • Nov 2013 – O2 Recycle supports The Dallaglio Foundation
  • March 2014 – Recycled 1 million handsets
