Charger out of the Box wins prestigious award
Awards season is well and truly upon us and so far this year we’ve had loads to celebrate! Just last month, Think Big received two Big Ticks from Business in The Community and July has seen a great win for the industry-first Charger out of the Box initiative.
We snapped up Waste/Recycling Project of the Year at the fourth annual BusinessGreen Leader Awards, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Tesco and Coca Cola. This is the second award that our Charger out of the Box initiative has received, following last year’s Peer Awards where we were a highly commended entry in the Sustainability and Environment category.
More than 15 different handsets are now being sold without a charger plug as standard. Extending this to more of our handset portfolio will come through building relationships with our partners, new and old. What we’ve delivered so far with HTC, Sony, Nokia, Alcatel and Motorola has been bold and challenging so it’s great to see this being recognised and making a difference.
Over 85% of customers choosing not to take a charger with their handset has prevented more than 160,000 unnecessary chargers from being on the market. There are already 100 million lying unused in UK homes and offices which equates to almost 30 tonnes of waste. So we really are making a huge difference!
We are proud of how successful this project has become. A lot of that success is down to the great collaborations we’ve had across the business and with the handset manufacturers who have been bold enough to take this innovative step with us.
