Beefy battery: the Sony Xperia Z3 will keep you chatting come hell or highwater
Every September, the great and the good of the technology world gather in Berlin to unveil their most exciting new wares at a show called IFA. It’s just kicked off in Germany, and the first phone to make its way on to the showfloor is the Sony Xperia Z3.
Should this be your next phone? It’s certainly a contender; join the O2 Gurus as we get you up to speed on its best and brightest features:
It’s a truly waterproof phone…
We’re not talking an ability to handle a bit of drizzle, here. The Sony Xperia Z3 has the highest waterproof rating of any smartphone to date, meaning you can use it in water for up to 30 minutes as long as you don’t go any deeper than 1.5m. Take holiday snaps in the pool, film while you swim, tweet from the bath… the waterworld is your oyster.
…with a super-charged camera…
For all that underwater filming, you’ll need a pretty nifty camera. The Xperia Z3’s 20MP snapper should keep you happy – it’s capable of taking clear, crisp photos even in low-lit situations so all your photos from the pub will come out wonderfully (and occasionally regrettably) clear. What’s more, the camera can shoot videos in super-high resolution known as 4K; find out more about that here.
…and a whole lot of battery…
Battery life has been a bit of a contentious issue in the smartphone world in the past, but Sony thinks it’s found a way to keep the Z3 going for up to two whole days. It manages this by coupling a really high capacity battery with an updated feature called Stamina mode that ekes as much power out of a single charge as possible.

….that lets you do proper gaming on the go
Great news for gamers: for the first time, the Sony Xperia Z3 will let you play PlayStation 4 games on your smartphone. Known as PS4 Remote Play, the feature is currently only available on the PS Vita. You’ll be able to play games running on a PS4 directly on your Z3 – the Remote Play feature will be rolling out to other Xperia smartphones in the future.
All that, and it’s slim, gorgeous and powerful too
So the Z3 is a games console, pro waterproof camera and fully fledged up-to-the-minute 4G Android smartphone – you’d expect it to be a bit of brick, right? Wrong! It’s just 7.5mm thin and that chassis is crafted from aluminium so you just know it’s going to feel great to hold.
We can’t wait to get our hands on it – if you feel the same, check out the Sony Xperia Z3 here.
