The lady of a thousand hairstyles, Jessie J, had a big 2014 stateside, rubbing shoulders with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Now she’s coming home to showcase tracks from her latest album, Sweet Talker. She’s bang, banging her way back to Glasgow (21), Newcastle (22), Manchester (24), Leeds (25), Birmingham (27)and finally Brixton (28).
Irish singer-songwriter Hozier brings his blend of haunting blues to Oxford (21) and Shepherds Bush Empire (31). Taylor Swift and Adele are fans of the self-confessed ‘gangly introvert’ with an incredible voice. So are we. Watch what happened when a Parisian choir sneaked in to a recent gig to harmonise on his smash hit, ‘Take me to Church’. Lovely stuff.
The other Jessie (Ware) brings her delicate sugary soul sound to Leeds (24), Brixton (29/30) with songs from her second album, Tough Love. Co-written with Ed Sheeran, lead single ‘Say you love me’ is a belter of a tune, and will give you chills in the best type of way. The rest of the album isn’t too shabby either.
Following a year of intense touring on the back of their third album, Stay Gold, Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, better known First Aid Kit, bring their blend of dreamy 1950s bluegrass folk to the O2 Manchester Apollo on 23 January. If you haven’t heard them, check out My Silver Lining.
