#O2BizRugby celebrates its 10th year at Twickenham

It’s been ten years since our business customers first got the chance to play in our charity touch rugby tournament on the hallowed turf of Twickenham. And – almost as if planned – our 10th year coincides with the run up to the small matter of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. As the Cup also happens to be hosted in England we thought it was only right to go bigger and better than ever for the charity event which will be held on 9 April.

This year our 22 teams have been tasked with raising over £66k for their chosen charities. In exchange they win the opportunity to play in a touch rugby tournament at the home of English rugby. Hosted by the legendary John Inverdale and with guest appearances from England internationals past and present it’s a unique experience for the participants and raises a lot of money for worthy causes.

More than your average fundraiser, participants can also bring along their children with special activities laid on for these rugby stars of future. We’re also hoping to make history with, not one, but two Guinness World Record attempts: One for the most conversions in an hour (we need to beat 408 conversions).  And another for the most rugby passes made in a minute (we need to exceed 59 passes in 60 seconds).  To get in shape in the run up to the tournament we’re practising for these records at various customer and O2 events around the country.

Last year we raised £36k for charity; a fantastic gauntlet for this year’s participants who we are challenging to at least double that amount to make our tenth year the most successful event we’ve run.

If you’re lucky to have a place at the event take a look at last year’s write up to get a feel for what you can expect. When our tournament started ten years ago Twitter didn’t exist but now you can get involved and support the teams by using #O2BizRugby .
