Tell us about your day job
I’m a Community Champion at Tesco, Consett.
Tell us a little about you
I support my local community and charities.
When and why did you join the Blood Bikers?
I first found out about the Northumbria Blood Bikes at Bikewise 2014. After finding out about the service they provide I knew I could help and I wanted to get involved.
Is it difficult to juggle your day job / family / hobbies with volunteering?
Sometimes things clash so I can’t attend but I try to find time to help and plan around things in my diary.
What do your friends / family think about your volunteer role?
Before I joined, they didn’t know anything about the volunteer service. One neighbour was very grateful for blood donations and the Blood Bikes as she needed their support when having her baby earlier this year.
What’s the best thing about joining the Blood Bikes?
I know that I’m helping to save lives.
What advice would you give to a budding Blood Biker?
Go for it! You’ll be saving lives and you can offer your support around whatever you currently do in your life. It’s so flexible but volunteers are vital to the service being operational.
If you could tell someone one thing about the Blood Bikers, what would it be?
It’s a humbling experience to know your helping to provide a service that saves lives.
