#WearTheRose with Dan Cole

What do you get when you cross a polar bear with a tiger and throw in a lion for good measure? Meet the force to be reckoned with, tighthead prop Dan Cole.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Just doing something you love day in, day out. I still play rugby all the time – just like I did when I was 12. There are always new challenges, and it’s a rare job when you get to test your performance on a weekly basis. Plus, you’re with your mates every day, building bonds – they’re like your family.

Your favourite perk?

Although we work hard, we don’t work nine to five every day. You do get time to yourself.

What would you do if you weren’t playing rugby?

I’d like to play American Football – quarterback. I loved football as a kid, too – and cricket. But there was nothing that I was ever that good at other than rugby.

Which player takes the most time getting ready?

Geoff Parling. He’s always oiling
his beard.

Forward or back?

Definitely forward – you’re always involved and doing stuff. When it’s a cold winter, you don’t want to be stood on the wing freezing your arse off.

What animal would you be?

A polar bear. It’s my nickname – I’ve done my research and they seem to be nice creatures.

Which would you choose as a sidekick – a monkey or a lion?

Lion. If you ever got into trouble, they’d be right there.

Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or one
horse-sized duck?

One hundred duck-sized horses. They’re so small you could just kick them away. With a horse-sized duck, one peck from that massive bill and you’re done for.

What superpower would you like to possess?

I’d like to heal quickly.

Final meal?

Fish and chips, I’m a haddock man and I’d have it by the sea.
