England prepared to face an Australian challenge
Did you hear the story about the Grand Slam winners that went to Australia? They got there. Erased it out of their minds and focused on what will be a challenging three game series against a powerful and hard team to beat.
Are they on holiday, are they enjoying the sights and sounds of Brisbane? Not a chance. Well, if you call the training field paradise then that’s all they can try and enjoy. Eddie Jones has ensured the focus is purely on the Aussies and putting to one side his and the teams achievements.
During the RBS 6 Nations, England looked and played with confidence. When they were under pressure they kept their cool and battled onto victory. This was also evident when they faced Wales before they flew down under. Jones will be focused on ensuring the mentality of the players doesn’t change. Australia is beatable. We know that. But they can also beat you and with style and class.
The last time Australia played a test series was the defeat to New Zealand in the 2015 World Cup final. They will be rusty, that’s for sure. England shouldn’t take it for granted though. Not many teams go to their backyard and come away with a victory. Eddie Jones said:
“They’re the second ranked team in the world, have the best coach in the world and they’re playing in their backyard – that probably entitles them to be favourites.
You’ve got to win the first Test, the series is about the first Test. It’s going to set up one side to win the series, and you want to be that side.”
It’s a young, hungry and exciting England squad with some experienced pros that can help make a difference. It’s going to be a battle and one we can’t wait for.
