England Rugby Look To Continue Their Winning Streak
The number 10 was the magic number going around Twickenham after England’s opening Old Mutual Wealth Series 32-21 win against South Africa on Saturday. It was their first win against the Springboks for the first time in 10 years and Eddie Jones became the first Head Coach to win his opening , you guessed it, 10 games.
The mood after the game was buoyant and the air around the ground was full of excitement in that we are witnessing something really special with this squad. Granted, fans know South Africa are on a decline at the moment but that shouldn’t take away the overall improvement in this team.
England had a number of standout players on the day, especially the influential performance from Ben Young’s. At this point we should include the clapping emoji. Courtney Lawes was another, after making his 50th cap and getting his first try for his country. The squad has been hit with big injuries leading up to the Old Mutual Wealth Series, but the togetherness, morale and harmony around the camp is high.
Eddie Jones welcomed the result but wanted more from the overall performance and has challenged the team to improve. It may be a perfect record under Jones but we feel it’s only a matter of time until he gets that performance from the team he is striving for.
Up next is Fiji on Saturday. It’s a game England can’t take lightly and that was evident the last time they met during last year’s World Cup. They are a big team and will be tough in the tackle so the players know it will be a battle ahead on the glorious Twickenham pitch.
