Celebrating Our Support for Step up to Serve and Young People
Today, 7th June, is ‘Share Your #iwillPledge Day’, when O2 and other organisations who support the Step up to Serve campaign to promote youth social action restate their commitment to the cause and share what they are doing to back young people.
O2 supports Step up to Serve not just because social action allows young people to make a positive impact on their communities and get involved in issues they care about, but also because it helps them develop important skills like self-confidence, teamwork, project and budget management. These skills help young people to fulfil their potential and ambition and develop the positive mind-set to transition into the world of work.
That’s why O2 is committed to giving young job applicants the opportunity to share their social action experience with us and why we contributed to Step up to Serve’s Social Action Guide for Employers, which advises business on how they can integrate social action in to their recruitment processes.
It’s why we have also hosted major youth celebration events for Step up to Serve at The O2, at Telefonica’s tech accelerator, Wayra, and at other venues across the country since the campaign was launched in 2013.
In the four years that the Step up to Serve campaign has been running, O2 Think Big has funded over 4,000 youth social action projects – and more than double that number since O2 Think Big was established seven years ago. Many of our O2 Think Big social action project leaders have featured on Go Think Big, sharing their experience and inspiring other young people, while a number of them have been chosen to be Step up to Serve #iwill social action ambassadors.
As we celebrate Step up to Serve’s #iwillPledge Day, O2 is proud of what we do as a business to support young people and to create opportunities that help them fulfil their potential. It amplifies and enriches our ability as a responsible business to make a positive contribution to society that goes further than the products and services we offer our 25 million customers.
