Barbara Windsor and Stephen Fry' No thanks, we'll take Karl Pilkington and Sachin Tendulkar

What’s the best thing about the UK’ Well, if you’re a woman it’s Tower Bridge. And if you’re a man, get to know and love Three Shire’s Head ‘ it’s a fantastic place for a picturesque walk.

The findings come at the end of O2’s search to find what people really value about their home country, whether that be the UK or abroad, to support their range of international calling products. O2 asked people to nominate what they most liked about their country and then put these ‘National Treasures’ to the public vote on Facebook.

With more than 14,000 people voting and submitting their National Treasures over 140,000 times, the outcomes could cause some headaches next time you’re planning a holiday:

  • Going to America’ The Statue of Liberty is the thing most treasured about America, but if you just listen to men it’s actually the Grand Canyon
  • When in Poland, visiting Morski Oko, the largest lake in the Tatra mountains is highly recommended. If it was just down to men however it’s all about Bigos, a traditional meat stew considered to be a national dish
  • The national treasure of France’ The Eiffel Tower, say men, while the Notre Dame Cathedral is the more special for women.

Meanwhile it’s an unlikely group of celebrities that are held the most dearly in our hearts ‘ Bob Marley, Sachin Tendulkar, Dame Edna, Doctor Who, Karl Pilkington and Cheryl Cole.

Whichever country customers are calling, O2 has some fantastic rates to help them keep in touch with foreign friends and family in far flung lands, even if they’re on a mobile. With O2 International Sim, calls to mobiles in India are 1p per minute, USA 2p per minute and 4p per minute for Poland. For more information visit http://www.o2.co.uk/international/intsim.

Oh and if you’re going to Bangladesh, men very much recommend a day trip to St Martin’s Island, although women much prefer Cox’s Bazar with its sandy beach ‘ the world’s longest. Maybe pack a map.
