O2 today announces Eoghan Colgan as the winner of this year’s O2 Undiscovered music bursary. After much deliberation, the O2 Undiscovered panel of industry professionals reached their decision late this afternoon, following live performances by each of the 11 finalists. A doctor by profession and originally from County Down, Northern Ireland, Eoghan, was chosen because of his unique sound and flair for live performance. As the beneficiary of the coveted O2 Undiscovered bursary, Eoghan will now gain a variety of essential benefits in order to successfully break into the music industry. These will include access to key industry figures through a strategic mentoring programme, production support, press and marketing, £3000 of French Connection clothing and £5000 in musical equipment. Eoghan will also perform at O2 Wireless and, at the same time, release his first digital single under the guidance of Polydor. Over 3000 hopefuls uploaded tracks and the final 11 performed in front of a panel of music impresarios at the ICA, London on 17th April 2007. The industry panel includes*: Andy Taylor from Duran Duran, renowned singer/songwriter Amanda Ghost, Anton Brooks from Bad Moon Publicity, who works with the Arctic Monkeys, DJ Spoony, Dylan White from Anglo Plugging and Music Week’s talent editor Stuart Clarke. Matt Cockett, Head of Music O2 said “O2 Undiscovered was set up to give real opportunity to raw talent across all music genres. It’s about helping unsigned musicians gain access to industry leaders, obtain practical advice and promote their sound. The competition has been an enormous success judging by the high standard and amount of talented acts who uploaded their tracks. O2 is delighted to continue its support for young artists and help them break through into the music industry.” Mixing music with medicine, EOGHAN COLGAN is a 28 year old doctor who currently lives in Glasgow. With a diverse range of songs written with his 5 piece band, his track for O2 Undiscovered this year is a haunting solo. On finding out that he was to be the recipient of the bursary, he said, “Winning O2 Undiscovered is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition and further my music career. During the competition the highly influential panel members have given me invaluable advice and support. I am just stunned at the reaction from everyone.” Eoghan Colgan gave his first performance as the winner of O2 Undiscovered 2007 at the ICA and two runners up also performed their entered tracks. O2 Undiscovered were also delighted to welcome The Holloways who headlined tonight’s gig and were the perfect accompaniment to a competition that celebrates raw talent.
