O2 and Network LIVE partner to deliver live music programming to consumers in UK, Germany and Ireland via O2's mobile platform
O2 today announced a partnership with Network Live, a joint venture between America Online, XM Satellite Radio and AEG, to provide O2 customers with exclusive Network LIVE video and audio mobile content from A-list artists Network Live has presented such as Greenday, Bon Jovi, plus many more throughout 2006 and 2007. The agreement with Network Live will also give O2 customers the opportunity to preview the type of mobile music that will be available from top acts that will play The O2 (formerly the Millennium Dome) when it opens in 2007. The deal forms part of O2 and AEG’s partnership to transform The O2 into the UK’s most exciting and technically advanced entertainment destination. Grahame Riddell, Head of Content Marketing O2 UK, comments: “Video over mobile is set to be a key content driver for mobile music in 2006. The live video content available as part of O2’s exclusive mobile partnership with Network Live will help encourage uptake of this service and enable customers the chance to enjoy a taste of music things to come when The O2 opens its doors. “In today’s global digital culture entertainment consumption knows no boundaries, neither by device nor borders. O2 understands that consumers want their content when, how and where they want it, live or on demand,” said Kevin Wall, CEO of Network LIVE. “ With O2 as a strategic partner, Network LIVE will deliver on our vision of offering fans worldwide the highest quality in live music experiences – providing the entertainment industry with connections to consumers worldwide.” To keep O2 music fans up-to-date on the latest content available, a Network LIVE music site will be prominent on O2 Active O2’s leading mobile internet service. The site will include details of current music content available to stream as well as the latest information on upcoming Network LIVE events. O2 Customers were treated to a taste of mobile music content to come last November, when O2 teamed up with Network LIVE to provide O2 music fans with a live performance on their mobile from Madonna’s private album launch party for “Confessions On a Dance Floor” at the Koko Club in London. “Building on the success of O2’s work with Live 8 and the Madonna gig, O2’s new partnership will also allow O2 to develop innovative, interactive experiences that will help bring live music to life wherever our customers are this year.” Whilst the Confessions on a Dancefloor gig itself was strictly private, O2 customers were able to watch up to five exclusive performances from the evening via O2 Active. This activity was supported with an extensive marketing campaign to raise awareness of the activity and in turn generated significant interest around the activity. Future content will potentially have similar marketing support campaigns. Added Riddell: “Building on the success of O2’s work with Live 8 and the Madonna gig. O2’s new partnership will also allow us to develop innovative, interactive experiences, brining live music to life wherever our customers are this year.” The O2 The O2 is set to open in 2007 as the UK’s most exciting and technically advanced music, sport and entertainment destination. The centrepiece of the multi-billion pound development will be an indoor arena for up to 23,000 fans and will play host to up to 150 world-class music, entertainment and sport events in its first year of opening. Within the facility there will be the O2 Music Club, with a capacity of over 2,000, an ice rink called the O2 Ice Pad, a “bubble” shaped exhibition space and a vibrant “entertainment district” featuring a variety of bars, restaurants, retail and leisure facilities.
