The commitment by O2, the UK’s leading mobile phone services operator, to invest in Glasgow was further underlined today, Tuesday 12 September 2006, when a major recruitment drive to sign up a further 500 staff commenced the day after O2 announced its role as a major supporter of Glasgow’s bid for the Commonwealth Games 2014.   The double-declaration to Glasgow consolidates O2’s position as a major supporter of Scotland’s largest city and of its customers in Scotland.   The week-long recruitment drive targeting commuters in Glasgow’s Central Station, is aimed at bringing a further 500 staff on board at O2’s flagship contact centre at the Skypark in Finnieston.   O2’s second phase of a two-year recruitment initiative aims to increase employee numbers at the Skypark contact centre from 500 to 1000 as part of a £20 million investment in Scotland.  It is aiming to meet its full complement of 1500 people in Glasgow on completion of the state-of-the-art customer service centre in early 2007.   The current recruitment campaign will see the infamous ‘O2 angels’ handing out recruitment leaflets throughout Central station and encouraging people to find out more about the opportunities on offer, while giant plasma screens showcase the current O2 advertising campaign.  O2 employees will also be on hand to answer any questions about working for the organisation.   Sarah Sargent, Head of Site at the contact centre, said, “At Skypark, we have a state-of-the-art contact centre which has been built with our employees in mind. It has fantastic facilities – people can relax when off duty, surfing the net, watching plasma screens in the chill out areas and there’s even a bus laid on to take people into the city centre.  As well as good pay and holidays, we offer a number of perks including tickets to the O2 Wireless festival and other events.  Anyone interested in finding out more about the positions on offer should pop down to the station and talk to an O2 representative or check out our website.” O2 is an open and diverse employer that is looking to recruit enthusiastic people who want to work for one of the UK’s leading mobile phone operators in Glasgow.
