London, UK – 2 July 07: As more than one third of mobile phone users in Britain opt to keep their existing handset[1], O2 has launched “simplicity”, a new range of pay monthly tariffs that provide O2’s best ever calling rates and can be ended on just 30 days notice at any time. The growing prevalence of handset-happy mobile customers, who are satisfied with their current mobile, and contract commitment-phobes, who don’t want to be locked in for 18 months or more, has led O2 to expand the range of mobile deals to give O2 customers even greater choice. “There are many reasons someone might not want a new phone. They may be happy with their existing handset which they have grown used to and have all the accessories for. Or they may be holding out for a new phone that is coming out soon and don’t want to be tied into an 18 month contract. They may simply not know what they want from one month to the next and want the flexibility to change. All these people still deserve the best possible mobile deal and experience and that is what they get with O2 simplicity,” said Sally Cowdry, O2 UK Marketing Director. With growing awareness of the carbon footprint involved in purchasing a new handset, more customer are opting to retain their existing phone and save the potential 7.5 kilograms of CO2 emissions that come with a new device (that’s equivalent to 34 beach balls of CO2). And what’s more for every online simplicity tariff taken with paperless bill O2 are donating £5 to the O2 Energy Saver Fund administered by the Energy Saver Trust. O2 simplicity tariffs start from just £15 a month for 200 minutes and 200 texts, and can save a customer £180 to £270[2] compared to an 18 month contract. Customers can cancel or change their tariff at any time and only need to give 30 days notice. Until now the only option has been Pay As You Go, but for those people who are perfectly happy with their existing handsets, O2 simplicity offers great value for money and, with the ease of direct debit payment, a lot less hassle,” Ms Cowdry said.
