O2 announces it has signed an agreement to provide Chester Racecourse with its market changing O2 Wifi service, which is free for both O2 and non-O2 mobile customers.

The deal sees O2 Wifi being deployed across the UK’s oldest racecourse, nicknamed the ‘Roodee’ in time for the start of Chester’s May Festival which attracts tens of thousands of race goers over the three day festival.

By partnering with O2 Wifi, Chester Racecourse will be able to offer a fast, free, reliable and simple to use wifi connection to all its customers, regardless of their mobile or broadband provider. Unlike other wifi providers, O2 Wifi auto-connects all registered users so race goers will only ever have to sign up once to get online.

The deal also gives Chester Racecourse a platform to further enhance the customer experience through branded landing pages and content, providing relevant and timely offers and rewarding loyalty.

Gavin Franks, MD of O2 Wifi said: “We are extremely pleased to launch our service at Chester Racecourse, ready for the May Festival. Through our partnership we can help bring digital experiences to life and engage with their customers.”

“Nothing beats the thrill of the races, and thanks to O2 Wifi, fans will now be able to share their experiences with their friends and family back home, be that updating, posting, blogging or even a last minute check of the form guide.”

“The decision to offer the free WiFi service was an easy one for us. Our business ethos is built upon ‘striving for excellence’ and ‘customer experience’. A business of our size should provide free WiFi for its customers. O2 Wifi is the leading provider in the UK, a natural choice of partner for us; their solution is already rolled out across the UK at McDonald’s, Costa and Debenhams. Most importantly large venues such as The O2 and Twickenham have it and are benefiting from it”, said Chester Race Company Chief Executive Richard Thomas.

O2 Wifi recently celebrated its six millionth customer, making it the UK’s fastest growing wifi operator*. The O2 Wifi hotspot estate is growing daily and already has hotspots in over 8,000 of the prime high street locations nationwide.

O2 Wifi is free for everyone, regardless of network or broadband provider and once registered, customers are automatically connected each time they enter a coverage area. The state of the art hotspot network is widely available across thousands of venues nationwide including McDonald’s, Debenhams, Costa Coffee, House of Fraser and Fullers and Mitchell & Butlers pubs.
