Over 100 Broadband Jobs will be Created in Glasgow by O2
Over 100 jobs will be created by O2 in Glasgow to support its exciting new broadband offering which is due to be launched to UK customers later this year. Out of around 170 new roles, up to 120 will be based at O2’s customer service centre in Glasgow’s Skypark at Finnieston, ranging from technical support managers and team coaches to customer service advisors. These new high-quality roles at Glasgow’s customer service centre have been specially created to handle business from O2’s proposed new broadband service. Together with the existing recruitment drive to employ customer service advisors for O2 mobile, the new broadband staff will take the Skypark’s total complement to 1500 people by the end of the year. Last year, O2 purchased Be*, one of the most innovative and technically advanced UK broadband providers for £50 million. The wholly-owned broadband unit will open up new possibilities for O2 and the driving force for the company is a desire to bring new, innovative, useful technology to market as soon as it becomes available, using the existing Be* network. Once launched, O2’s broadband service will provide custoomers with simple, value for money, reliable internet access at the fastest speeds the UK infrastructure can deliver. O2 is looking for people who can develop their technical skills and knowledge as O2’s broadband service grows. As a first point of contact for future broadband customers, customer service advisors will need to be able to respond to calls regarding installation, billing, orders and technical problems, whereas technical support managers will need to lead a visible, supportive team who will deliver technical advice. Cheryl Black, Customer Service Director at O2, said, “The acquisition of Be* is a fantastic opportunity for O2 to develop future converged services that integrate mobile and the internet. Around 170 jobs in the UK will be created for this forthcoming service, with the majority based at Glasgow’s Skypark – helping to diversify the range of jobs at this new customer service centre. “Broadband usage in the UK has increasingly become a part of everyday life and we are looking for good people to develop their skills and knowledge as our new operation grows. This is a chance for potential employees to work in high-quality roles, in a specialist area on the UK’s most advanced broadband network. The jobs range from managerial roles, to specialist technical positions and new employees will develop their customer service or technical skills whilst being part of an exciting, new team that will be key to delivering a brand new service to customers across the UK.” O2 is an open and diverse employer that is looking to recruit more enthusiastic people who must have a working knowledge of broadband/internet services, a basic understanding of Windows operating systems, wireless network set-ups and fault diagnosis. For the technical support roles, applicants should preferably come from an IT or telecoms background, ideally with knowledge of fixed line, mobile and consumer data products. O2 offers an award-winning pension, with a performance-related bonus, life assurance and generous holiday entitlement. As well as discounts on products and services, employees also have the chance to win tickets for music festivals, ipods and cinema tickets and more.
